Personal project (2017)
Book cover idea for the novel Psycho (Robert Bloch, 1959) but imagined as if it were a romantic story, involving the characters we know from the original and from the movie directed by Hitchcock.
I very much like the idea of parallel universes where famous stories are told from a completely different angle and entertain myself thinking about how their poster and cover illustrations would be designed. Why not Little Women is a psychological thriller as my next personal project?
Signed limited edition prints of this pieces are available in different sizes here.
Personal project (2021)
Illustrating food and drinks is one of the things I love most, it’s a wonderful way to practice on textures, colors and even materials. In this case, I saw the photo it’s based on in an instagram story from one of my friends and I asked if I could use it as inspiration for a cocktail illustration.
Here I really liked how the orange shades of the iced Aperol Spritz mixed with the bright green of the mint leaf, and the lime green shades of the mojito next to it. Getting right both glasses was also a challenge!
This piece is also available in my big cartel shop as a limited edition print. You can get it here.

Client: American author Michael Campanella
Publishing date: March 2021
Lifestyle and food illustrations for the essay “The spirit of cheese”, from the cookbook Theater of the Kitchen.
Its author, Michael Campanella, preferred food illustrations, instead of a more traditional recipe collection with photos, or step by step elaborations, so his readers wouldn’t be too limited by them and let their creativity and intuition flow freely in the kitchen.
This essay, from the last part of the book, is about cheese served as a dessert, its different varieties, and how a good communication with the cheesemonger is key to create the perfect board of cheese.

Client: Madrid 1915 Private Suites (2020)
I’ve been doing architecture illustrations since I was little. At school I used to draw imaginary buildings and design temples inspired by those I loved from the Ancient Greek stories I loved to read.
Instead of becoming an architect I kept doing this kind of building illustrations, getting inspired from places I already know or making up my own. In this case, the subject is an Art Deco apartment building from 1915 located in Madrid that has a very interesting sculpture of an angel crashing face first on the terrace.
This place has been recently renovated and designed by its owners as luxury apartments for rent in a project called Madrid 1915 Luxury Suites. For them I customized an original print I had previously made with different backgrounds that would match the decoration in each floor: vintage, architectural, pop art, romantic…

Fish chart illustration for the book Theater of the Kitchen, a collection of culinary essays and recipes by Michael Campanella.
It belongs to the fourth chapter, with fish and selfish recipes, and illustrates the essay “Flavor profiles of popular fish” that introduces the different kinds of fish its author likes to use in the kitchen.
For these work I got inspired by the vintage zoological picture books I loved to read when I was young, and which I still have in my library, and updated it in my own style.

Client: Patricia Sañes (Spanish journalist and influencer, 2016)
I’m very lucky to have great friends. One of them is Patricia Sañes, one of the best fashion journalists in Spain. I’ve known her now for more than ten years since we worked together in the beauty industry in Madrid. Now she lives in Barcelona with her beautiful family, but we try to see each other whenever our complicated work life allows it.
She commissioned me her illustrated portrait and we worked together with it as if it were a real life photoshoot: choosing different outfits, poses and even make up. From more than five different versions we polished and changed details till we found the perfect one.

Client: Cruz Roja Española (Spanish Red Cross)
Publishing date: January 2022
Illustration for the Spanish Red Cross campaign #AlimentaciónConsciente, to promote healthy eating habits and the rediscovery of traditional recipes with whole unprocessed ingredients.
The inspiration for this work was my own experience as a child, helping my family cook our daily snacks and choosing which cakes or pastries we would do from the family cookbooks. I clearly remember the smells of chocolate and butter that would fill the entire house!
Published in AHORA, the online magazine from Cruz Roja, in their cartoons section, where I was featured and profiled as a guest contributor. Read it here.

Client: Kérastase / Vogue Spain Magazine
Publishing date: September 2017 (issue #355)
Editorial fashion illustration for Vogue magazine, commissioned by Kérastase, one of the brands within the L’Oréal portfolio.
Sometimes brands need to advertise their newest innovations in magazines even without an official picture of their finished product. That’s what happened at Kérastase, when they had to promote one of their latests products (a smart hair brush) so ahead in time they didn’t even have any pictures of the finished thing. So, they asked me to do an interpretation of it, of course based in what would be the real thing, for Vogue magazine.
Although I knew how the product looked like I decided to draw a beauty illustration scene, to set the mood for the page and match the text on page. I presented them with two different choices that were combined in the end to look like this.

Privately commissioned portrait (2020)
This illustrated portrait, requested as a farewell gift, had to feature not only its recipient but also a view of his hometown, Madrid. I chose the Riu Plaza de España hotel as setting, because from its sky bar there are beautiful 360º views of the entire city and it has this glass platform where you can literally walk over the streets, at 117 meters high.

Lifestyle illustration in the time of COVID-19. This was my contribution in the local solidarity campaign Jo Actuo, organized by the Regional Government of Catalonia, to spread love and kindness among the population during the pandemic lockdown.
The phrase “Jo Actuo” means “I act”, and each participant was asked to feature a different reason why they acted with kindness and solidarity in those trying times. In my case, I chose “I act for responsibility”.

Client: Condé Nast Traveler (Spain)

Commissioned by the Spanish edition of the magazine in April 2020, along with four additional illustrations, for a summer lifestyle article that linked four Spanish travel destinations with suitable items of clothing, accessories and technology gadgets that were also illustrated by me.
This architecture illustration represents Madrid, as it shows the upper floors and terrace of the Hyatt Centric Gran Vía, a recently restored 19th century art-deco building located in the heart of the city. On its dome, part of the sculpture called Diana The Huntress, representing the greek classical goddess and her hunting dogs.
For the whole article I did more than 25 illustrations and it marked my first time being featured in the contributors page of the magazine. ✌🏼
Book cover competition entry (2017)
When I heard uprising author and playwright Juan Arcones was calling a contest for Spanish artists to illustrate the cover art of his latest work, I didn’t hesitate and got to work. The book was the follow-up to his previous novel, a romantic story about two guys falling in love, and its title, Basoréxico, refers to someone suffering from basorexia, that is, the overwhelming urge to kiss someone.
This is the illustration I made as my entry for the cover art for the novel. It wasn’t selected by I’m really proud of the outcome.
Available as a limited edition print in my Big Cartel shop.

Built in 1930 at Gran Vía street 60, it was severely damaged by bombings during the Spanish Civil War, and had to be rebuilt years later. It is crowned by the art-deco sculpture called The Roman, made by Victorio Macho, representing a classical male figure holding a house-shaped object.

Privately commissioned illustration (2018)
Custom pet portrait of Teo, an Italian Greyhound, and Luca, a Prague Ratter.
Privately commissioned illustration (2020)
Children’s illustration for a newborn’s nursery. The idea behind this illustration was to create something lively and colorful that would brighten up the room.
I wanted it also to last in time and become a tool for the child’s growth, so around the main subject in the illustration I drew lots of different characters, each one with its own personality and hobby, that would stimulate the baby’s imagination. It’s inspired by a very well known image from the tale Gulliver’s Travels (Jonathan Swift, 1726) that I remember fondly from my own childhood.

Client: Garnier Spain / Unicef Spain; (2018)
Children’s illustration commissioned by Garnier Spain, one of the brands within the L’Oréal portfolio, for a solidarity communication campaign with Unicef.
It was an honor as a Spanish artist to be involved in the celebration of World Children’s Day, on November 20th, with such a beautiful initiative: Garnier asked me to make a black and white drawing for the Spanish children to color and customize with a message of love and hope that would be then sent to refugee centers in Jordan, with the help of Unicef.
The colored version was the image of the campaign. It was also published as a Garnier’s instagram post and in Garnier’s blog entry about Unicef.

Client: Condé Nast Traveler (Spain)
Publishing date: March issue, 2018 (No. 115)
This one is special as it was my first editorial illustration for Traveler magazine.
The piece was called “Destino ilustrado” (illustrated destination): a travel piece written an illustrated by a different guest artist each month. My article narrated my first hiking experience with friends to Lac Blanc, in Chamonix (France), which was quite an achievement for me given that I suffer from vertigo… :)
The collaboration meant a lot to me, not only because since then I’ve become a regular contributor for the magazine, but also I got to be both illustrator and journalist, which is what I majored in at university.

Personal project (2019)
I’ve always loved the original painting this illustration is based on, The Nobleman with his Hand on his Chest, by El Greco; and, even though I don’t know a lot about the Star Wars universe, I do really like how it’s a cultural phenomenon visually stunning and a kind of modern mythology.
That’s why I considered an interesting idea to mix both styles and see what would happen if this 16th century nobleman tried a Darth Vader helmet on like a modern cosplayer. It was also a nice way for me to improve my portrait skills while taking a modern culture reference into classical art.
Signed limited edition prints of this Star Wars illustration are also available in my Big Cartel shop!

Client: Penguin Random House
Publishing date: August 2021
Cover artwork illustration for the hardcover and audiobook editions of Skinship, by author Yoon Choi and published by Knopf, a Penguin Random House imprint. With jacket design by Janet Hansen.
This illustration holds a very special place in my heart. I did it around 2019, as a personal project, to experiment on illustrating emotions and feelings with texture and colors. The final image, representing a hug, played with the negative space and I chose not to give the figures any facial feature so they would be as diverse as possible.
The illustration soon became one of my most recognizable pieces and it was even requested for a solidarity campaign organized by the Spanish Red Cross in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Near the end of 2020, the design team at Penguin Random House, contacted me. They were designing the cover for one of their book launches, and wanted to know if I’d be willing to collaborate with them on it with this artwork. I immediately said yes, and after adapting the original illustration, they did their magic and created this cover.
I am really happy that my work is now on the cover of this book. Skinship: Stories, is the debut novel of author Yoon Choi, a collection of short stories about the life of Korean-American families, published in 2021.
You can buy it here at Penguin Random House.

Personal project (2017 - 2019)
Two different versions of the same nature illustration:
In 2017 (top), between commissions and to unwind, I opened a blank white canvas in Procreate and started playing with layers and shades of blue that, after a while, reminded me of the ocean. I turned it into an underwater landscape illustration, with a person enjoying the quietness and peace of the open sea.
In 2019 (bottom) I revisited this illustration as a way to practice with the textured brushes from Adobe Fresco, which had just launched, and made a new version with a bit more depth and a different style that I think shows a bit of my evolution as an artist and my own personal and working experiences.
Signed limited edition prints are available for sale in my Big Cartel shop here.
Personal project (2018)
Star Wars lifestyle illustration. This was my first approach to the world of Star Wars, and is my answer to something that I thought about when I was watching one of its movies: what happens when a stormtrooper finishes his/her shift and gets home after a hard days work?
So, this is how I imagined how an ordinary day in life would be for a stormtrooper: the long days followed by quiet and calm evenings at home, overlooking Coruscant with a nice refreshment at hand.
