Commissioned illustration / Digital illustration on Procreate app & Photoshop
Client: Meliá Hotels International / Condé Nast Editions
I think I’ve said already that my career started as a journalist, a job I took for nearly ten years, Now that I’m a full-time illustrator is really a pleasure for me to keep collaborating with magazines and newspapers, and this commission is the perfect example of it. Being able to engage readers with colorful drawings and illustrate words to create a feeling is something wonderful in editorial illustration. In this case, Condé Nast approached me to work on one of the magazines they do for external brands: the biannual magazine from Meliá Hotels International.
I was in charge to announce the opening of one of their newest hotels, in Algarve (Portugal), one of the most amazing and special places in Europe. After considering different approaches, I decided to go with the full view one can have when entering one of their spectacular beaches: its white sand and turquoise waters, surrounded by amber colored rock formations and a certain paradise-like feeling. This beach illustration depicts different stories one can relate to… the newlyweds, the occasional tourist, the Portuguese family… You choose which one you feel more identified with!
The magazine is available in Meliá Hotels worldwide, in every room, and you can also check Style #8 online here.
